Construction of the New Building
A large amount of fill dirt had to be brought in to raise the level of the ground behind the original church building. Hauling and compaction took place in the latter months of 2004. In this picture, the site is ready and preparations for construction are being made in January of 2005.
After a great deal of rain delay in early 2005, the site is ready for concrete to be brought in during April 2005.
And the concrete begins to roll in April 4, 2005.
Special equipment was necessary to reach across the large area the new building will cover.
Workers tackle the enormous job of smoothing the many yards of concrete.
With the concrete in place, it is time for wood to start arriving.
The new building extends from the back of the original church building. The structures will be joined by two doorways, one from the bottom level of the church and one from the upper level of the church. The upper doorway will replace a stained glass window on the back wall of the church and will lead to the elevator that is part of the new structure. (Click on the window link at the left to find out what happened to the stained glass window that got replaced by a doorway.)
In late April, walls begin to emerge...
followed by roof trusses in early May.
A large wooden skeleton shows the outline of the building by mid-May.
Layer by layer...
the new building emerges.
As the exterior takes shape, the inside of the building is coming together as well.

Cabinets are installed in the generously appointed kitchen.

Anticipation builds for the dedication service and moving of offices into the new space as construction nears completion.
